1. All of you must yield to the government rulers. No one rules unless God has given him the power to rule, and no one rules now without that power from God.

2. So those who are against the government are really against what God has commanded. And they will bring punishment on themselves.

2. Whosoever therefore resisteth G498 G5620 the G3588 power G1849 , resisteth G436 the G3588 ordinance G1296 of God G2316 : and G1161 they that resist G436 shall receive G2983 to themselves G1438 damnation G2917 .

3. Those who do right do not have to fear the rulers; only those who do wrong fear them. Do you want to be unafraid of the rulers? Then do what is right, and they will praise you.

4. The ruler is God's servant to help you. But if you do wrong, then be afraid. He has the power to punish; he is God's servant to punish those who do wrong.

But G1161 if G1437 thou do G4160 that which is evil G2556 , be afraid G5399 ; for G1063 he beareth G5409 not G3756 the G3588 sword G3162 in vain G1500 : for G1063 he is G2076 the minister G1249 of God G2316 , a revenger G1558 to G1519 execute wrath G3709 upon him that doeth G4238 evil G2556 .

5. So you must yield to the government, not only because you might be punished, but because you know it is right.

6. This is also why you pay taxes. Rulers are working for God and give their time to their work.

7. Pay everyone, then, what you owe. If you owe any kind of tax, pay it. Show respect and honor to them all.

8. Do not owe people anything, except always owe love to each other, because the person who loves others has obeyed all the law.

9. The law says, "You must not be guilty of adultery. You must not murder anyone. You must not steal. You must not want to take your neighbor's things." All these commands and all others are really only one rule: "Love your neighbor as you love yourself."

10. Love never hurts a neighbor, so loving is obeying all the law.

11. Do this because we live in an important time. It is now time for you to wake up from your sleep, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

11. And G2532 that G5124 , knowing G1492 the G3588 time G2540 , that G3754 now G2235 it is high time G5610 to G2248 awake G1453 out of G1537 sleep G5258 : for G1063 now G3568 is our G2257 salvation G4991 nearer G1452 than G2228 when G3753 we believed G4100 .

12. The "night" is almost finished, and the "day" is almost here. So we should stop doing things that belong to darkness and take up the weapons used for fighting in the light.

12. The G3588 night G3571 is far spent G4298 G1161 , the G3588 day G2250 is at hand G1448 : let us therefore G3767 cast off G659 the G3588 works G2041 of darkness G4655 , and G2532 let us put on G1746 the G3588 armor G3696 of light G5457 .

13. Let us live in a right way, like people who belong to the day. We should not have wild parties or get drunk. There should be no sexual sins of any kind, no fighting or jealousy.

13. Let us walk G4043 honestly G2156 , as G5613 in G1722 the day G2250 ; not G3361 in rioting G2970 and G2532 drunkenness G3178 , not G3361 in chambering G2845 and G2532 wantonness G766 , not G3361 in strife G2054 and G2532 envying G2205 .

14. But clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ and forget about satisfying your sinful self.
