Now
the
days
of
David
drew
nigh
that
he
should
die;
and
he
charged
Solomon
his
son,
saying,
2
I
go
the
way
of
all
the
earth:
be
thou
strong
therefore,
and
shew
thyself
a
man;
3
And
keep
the
charge
of
the
LORD
thy
God,
to
walk
in
his
ways,
to
keep
his
statutes,
and
his
commandments,
and
his
judgments,
and
his
testimonies,
as
it
is
written
in
the
law
of
Moses,
that
thou
mayest
prosper
in
all
that
thou
doest,
and
whithersoever
thou
turnest
thyself:
4
That
the
LORD
may
continue
his
word
which
he
spake
concerning
me,
saying,
If
thy
children
take
heed
to
their
way,
to
walk
before
me
in
truth
with
all
their
heart
and
with
all
their
soul,
there
shall
not
fail
thee
(said
he)
a
man
on
the
throne
of
Israel.
5
Moreover
thou
knowest
also
what
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah
did
to
me,
and
what
he
did
to
the
two
captains
of
the
hosts
of
Israel,
unto
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
and
unto
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
whom
he
slew,
and
shed
the
blood
of
war
in
peace,
and
put
the
blood
of
war
upon
his
girdle
that
was
about
his
loins,
and
in
his
shoes
that
were
on
his
feet.
6
Do
therefore
according
to
thy
wisdom,
and
let
not
his
hoar
head
go
down
to
the
grave
in
peace.
7
But
shew
kindness
unto
the
sons
of
Barzillai
the
Gileadite,
and
let
them
be
of
those
that
eat
at
thy
table:
for
so
they
came
to
me
when
I
fled
because
of
Absalom
thy
brother.
8
And,
behold,
thou
hast
with
thee
Shimei
the
son
of
Gera,
a
Benjamite
of
Bahurim,
which
cursed
me
with
a
grievous
curse
in
the
day
when
I
went
to
Mahanaim:
but
he
came
down
to
meet
me
at
Jordan,
and
I
sware
to
him
by
the
LORD,
saying,
I
will
not
put
thee
to
death
with
the
sword.
9
Now
therefore
hold
him
not
guiltless:
for
thou
art
a
wise
man,
and
knowest
what
thou
oughtest
to
do
unto
him;
but
his
hoar
head
bring
thou
down
to
the
grave
with
blood.
10
So
David
slept
with
his
fathers,
and
was
buried
in
the
city
of
David.
11
And
the
days
that
David
reigned
over
Israel
were
forty
years:
seven
years
reigned
he
in
Hebron,
and
thirty
and
three
years
reigned
he
in
Jerusalem.
12
Then
sat
Solomon
upon
the
throne
of
David
his
father;
and
his
kingdom
was
established
greatly.
13
And
Adonijah
the
son
of
Haggith
came
to
Bathsheba
the
mother
of
Solomon.
And
she
said,
Comest
thou
peaceably?
And
he
said,
Peaceably.
14
He
said
moreover,
I
have
somewhat
to
say
unto
thee.
And
she
said,
Say
on.
15
And
he
said,
Thou
knowest
that
the
kingdom
was
mine,
and
that
all
Israel
set
their
faces
on
me,
that
I
should
reign:
howbeit
the
kingdom
is
turned
about,
and
is
become
my
brother's:
for
it
was
his
from
the
LORD.
16
And
now
I
ask
one
petition
of
thee,
deny
me
not.
And
she
said
unto
him,
Say
on.
17
And
he
said,
Speak,
I
pray
thee,
unto
Solomon
the
king,
(for
he
will
not
say
thee
nay,)
that
he
give
me
Abishag
the
Shunammite
to
wife.
18
And
Bathsheba
said,
Well;
I
will
speak
for
thee
unto
the
king.
19
Bathsheba
therefore
went
unto
king
Solomon,
to
speak
unto
him
for
Adonijah.
And
the
king
rose
up
to
meet
her,
and
bowed
himself
unto
her,
and
sat
down
on
his
throne,
and
caused
a
seat
to
be
set
for
the
king's
mother;
and
she
sat
on
his
right
hand.
20
Then
she
said,
I
desire
one
small
petition
of
thee;
I
pray
thee,
say
me
not
nay.
And
the
king
said
unto
her,
Ask
on,
my
mother:
for
I
will
not
say
thee
nay.
21
And
she
said,
Let
Abishag
the
Shunammite
be
given
to
Adonijah
thy
brother
to
wife.
22
And
king
Solomon
answered
and
said
unto
his
mother,
And
why
dost
thou
ask
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
Adonijah?
ask
for
him
the
kingdom
also;
for
he
is
mine
elder
brother;
even
for
him,
and
for
Abiathar
the
priest,
and
for
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah.
23
Then
king
Solomon
sware
by
the
LORD,
saying,
God
do
so
to
me,
and
more
also,
if
Adonijah
have
not
spoken
this
word
against
his
own
life.
24
Now
therefore,
as
the
LORD
liveth,
which
hath
established
me,
and
set
me
on
the
throne
of
David
my
father,
and
who
hath
made
me
an
house,
as
he
promised,
Adonijah
shall
be
put
to
death
this
day.
25
And
king
Solomon
sent
by
the
hand
of
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
and
he
fell
upon
him
that
he
died.
26
And
unto
Abiathar
the
priest
said
the
king,
Get
thee
to
Anathoth,
unto
thine
own
fields;
for
thou
art
worthy
of
death:
but
I
will
not
at
this
time
put
thee
to
death,
because
thou
barest
the
ark
of
the
Lord
GOD
before
David
my
father,
and
because
thou
hast
been
afflicted
in
all
wherein
my
father
was
afflicted.
27
So
Solomon
thrust
out
Abiathar
from
being
priest
unto
the
LORD;
that
he
might
fulfil
the
word
of
the
LORD,
which
he
spake
concerning
the
house
of
Eli
in
Shiloh.
28
Then
tidings
came
to
Joab:
for
Joab
had
turned
after
Adonijah,
though
he
turned
not
after
Absalom.
And
Joab
fled
unto
the
tabernacle
of
the
LORD,
and
caught
hold
on
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
And
it
was
told
king
Solomon
that
Joab
was
fled
unto
the
tabernacle
of
the
LORD;
and,
behold,
he
is
by
the
altar.
Then
Solomon
sent
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
saying,
Go,
fall
upon
him.
30
And
Benaiah
came
to
the
tabernacle
of
the
LORD,
and
said
unto
him,
Thus
saith
the
king,
Come
forth.
And
he
said,
Nay;
but
I
will
die
here.
And
Benaiah
brought
the
king
word
again,
saying,
Thus
said
Joab,
and
thus
he
answered
me.
31
And
the
king
said
unto
him,
Do
as
he
hath
said,
and
fall
upon
him,
and
bury
him;
that
thou
mayest
take
away
the
innocent
blood,
which
Joab
shed,
from
me,
and
from
the
house
of
my
father.
32
And
the
LORD
shall
return
his
blood
upon
his
own
head,
who
fell
upon
two
men
more
righteous
and
better
than
he,
and
slew
them
with
the
sword,
my
father
David
not
knowing
thereof,
to
wit,
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
captain
of
the
host
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
captain
of
the
host
of
Judah.
33
Their
blood
shall
therefore
return
upon
the
head
of
Joab,
and
upon
the
head
of
his
seed
for
ever:
but
upon
David,
and
upon
his
seed,
and
upon
his
house,
and
upon
his
throne,
shall
there
be
peace
for
ever
from
the
LORD.
34
So
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up,
and
fell
upon
him,
and
slew
him:
and
he
was
buried
in
his
own
house
in
the
wilderness.
35
And
the
king
put
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
in
his
room
over
the
host:
and
Zadok
the
priest
did
the
king
put
in
the
room
of
Abiathar.
36
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
unto
him,
Build
thee
an
house
in
Jerusalem,
and
dwell
there,
and
go
not
forth
thence
any
whither.
37
For
it
shall
be,
that
on
the
day
thou
goest
out,
and
passest
over
the
brook
Kidron,
thou
shalt
know
for
certain
that
thou
shalt
surely
die:
thy
blood
shall
be
upon
thine
own
head.
38
And
Shimei
said
unto
the
king,
The
saying
is
good:
as
my
lord
the
king
hath
said,
so
will
thy
servant
do.
And
Shimei
dwelt
in
Jerusalem
many
days.
39
And
it
came
to
pass
at
the
end
of
three
years,
that
two
of
the
servants
of
Shimei
ran
away
unto
Achish
son
of
Maachah
king
of
Gath.
And
they
told
Shimei,
saying,
Behold,
thy
servants
be
in
Gath.
40
And
Shimei
arose,
and
saddled
his
ass,
and
went
to
Gath
to
Achish
to
seek
his
servants:
and
Shimei
went,
and
brought
his
servants
from
Gath.
41
And
it
was
told
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath,
and
was
come
again.
42
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
unto
him,
Did
I
not
make
thee
to
swear
by
the
LORD,
and
protested
unto
thee,
saying,
Know
for
a
certain,
on
the
day
thou
goest
out,
and
walkest
abroad
any
whither,
that
thou
shalt
surely
die?
and
thou
saidst
unto
me,
The
word
that
I
have
heard
is
good.
43
Why
then
hast
thou
not
kept
the
oath
of
the
LORD,
and
the
commandment
that
I
have
charged
thee
with?
44
The
king
said
moreover
to
Shimei,
Thou
knowest
all
the
wickedness
which
thine
heart
is
privy
to,
that
thou
didst
to
David
my
father:
therefore
the
LORD
shall
return
thy
wickedness
upon
thine
own
head;
45
And
king
Solomon
shall
be
blessed,
and
the
throne
of
David
shall
be
established
before
the
LORD
for
ever.
46
So
the
king
commanded
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
which
went
out,
and
fell
upon
him,
that
he
died.
And
the
kingdom
was
established
in
the
hand
of
Solomon.
Luke 21:33
33
Heaven
and
earth
shall
pass
away:
but
my
words
shall
not
pass
away.

And
David
lieth
down
with
his
fathers,
and
is
buried
in
the
city
of
David,
11
and
the
days
that
David

are
forty

in

he
hath
reigned
seven

and
in

he

thirty

And
Solomon
hath
sat
on
the

of
David
his

and
his

is
established
greatly,
13
and
Adonijah
son
of
Haggith
cometh
in
unto
Bath-Sheba,
mother
of
Solomon,
and
she
saith,
`Is
thy
coming
peace?`
and
he
saith,
`Peace.`
14
And
he
saith,
`I
have
a
word
unto
thee,`
and
she
saith,
`Speak.`
15
And
he
saith,
`Thou
hast
known
that
the
kingdom
was
mine,
and
towards
me
set
their
faces
had
all
Israel
for

and

for
from
Jehovah
it
was
his;

one
petition
I
am
asking
of
thee
--
turn
not
back
my

and
she
saith
unto
him,
`Speak.`
17
And
he
saith,
`Speak,
I
pray
thee,
to
Solomon
the
king,
for
he
doth
not
turn
back
thy
face,
and
he
doth

18
And
Bath-Sheba
saith,
`Good;
I
do

for
thee
unto
the
king.`
19
And
Bath-Sheba
cometh
in
unto
king
Solomon
to
speak
to
him
for
Adonijah,
and
the
king
riseth
to
meet
her,
and
boweth
himself
to
her,
and
sitteth
on
his
throne,
and
placeth
a
throne
for
the
mother
of
the
king,
and
she
sitteth
at
his
right
hand.
20
And
she
saith,
`One
small
petition
I
ask
of
thee,
turn
not
back
my
face;`
and
the
king
saith
to
her,
`Ask,
my
mother,
for
I
do
not
turn
back
thy

21
And
she
saith,
`Let
Abishag
the
Shunammite
be
given
to
Adonijah
thy
brother
for
a
wife.`
22
And
king
Solomon
answereth
and
saith
to
his
mother,
`And
why
art
thou
asking
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
Adonijah?
also
ask

--
even
for
him,
and
for
Abiathar
the
priest,
and
for
Joab
son
of
Zeruiah.`
23
And
king
Solomon
sweareth
by
Jehovah,
saying,
`Thus
doth
God
to
me,
and
thus
He
doth
add
--
surely
against
his
soul
hath
Adonijah
spoken
this
word;
24
and
now,
Jehovah
liveth,
who
hath
established
me,
and
causeth
me
to
sit
on
the
throne
of
David
my
father,
and
who
hath
made
for
me
an
house
as
He
spake
--
surely
to-day
is
Adonijah
put
to
death.`
25
And
king
Solomon
sendeth
by
the
hand
of
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada,
and
he
falleth
upon
him,
and
he
dieth.
26
And
to
Abiathar
the
priest
said
the
king,
`To
Anathoth
go,
unto
thy
fields;
for
a
man
of
death
thou

but
in
this

I
do
not
put
thee
to
death,
because
thou
hast
borne
the

the
Lord
Jehovah
before
David
my
father,
and
because
thou
wast
afflicted
in
all
that
my
father
was
afflicted
in.`
27
And
Solomon
casteth
out
Abiathar
from
being
priest
to
Jehovah,
to
fulfil
the
word
of
Jehovah
which
He
spake
concerning
the
house
of
Eli
in
Shiloh.
28
And
the
report
hath
come
unto
Joab
--
for
Joab
hath
turned
aside
after
Adonijah,
though
after
Absalom
he
did
not
turn
aside
--
and
Joab
fleeth

29
And
it
is
declared
to
king
Solomon
that
Joab
hath
fled
unto
the
tent
of
Jehovah,
and
lo,
near
the
altar;
and
Solomon
sendeth
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada,
saying,
`Go,
fall
upon
him.`
30
And
Benaiah
cometh
in
unto
the
tent
of
Jehovah,
and
saith
unto
him,
`Thus
said
the
king,
Come
out;`
and
he
saith,
`Nay,
but
here
I
die.`
And
Benaiah
bringeth
back
the
king
word,
saying,
`Thus
spake
Joab,
yea,
thus
he
answered
me.`
31
And
the
king
saith
to
him,
`Do
as
he
hath
spoken,
and
fall
upon
him,
and
thou
hast
buried
him,
and
turned
aside
the
causeless
blood
which
Joab
shed,
from
off
me,
and
from
off
the
house
of
my
father;
32
and
Jehovah
hath
turned
back
his
blood
on
his
own
head,
who
hath
fallen
on
two
men
more
righteous
and
better
than
he,
and
slayeth
them
with
the
sword,
--
and
my
father
David
knew
not
--
Abner
son
of
Ner,
head
of
the
host
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
son
of
Jether,
head
of
the
host
of
Judah;
33
yea,
turned
back
hath
their
blood
on
the
head
of
Joab,
and
on
the
head
of
his
seed
to
the
age;
and
for
David,
and
for
his
seed,
and
for
his
house,
and
for
his
throne,
there
is
peace
unto
the
age,
from
Jehovah.`
34
And
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
goeth
up
and
falleth
upon
him,
and
putteth
him
to
death,
and
he
is
buried
in
his
own
house
in
the
wilderness,
35
and
the
king
putteth
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
in
his
stead
over
the
host,
and
Zadok
the
priest
hath
the
king
put
in
the
stead
of
Abiathar.
36
And
the
king
sendeth
and
calleth
for
Shimei,
and
saith
to
him,
`Build
for
thee
a
house
in
Jerusalem,
and
thou
hast
dwelt
there,
and
dost
not
go
out
thence
any
where;
37
and
it
hath
been,
in
the
day
of
thy

out,
and
thou

the
brook
Kidron,
thou
dost
certainly
know
that
thou

thy

38
And
Shimei
saith
to
the
king,
`The
word

as
my
lord
the
king
hath
spoken
so
doth
thy
servant

and
Shimei
dwelleth
in
Jerusalem
many
days.
39
And
it
cometh
to
pass,
at
the
end
of
three
years,
that
flee
do
two
of
the
servants
of
Shimei
unto
Achish
son
of
Maachah,
king
of
Gath,
and
they
declare
to
Shimei,
saying,
`Lo,
thy
servants
are
in
Gath;`
40
and
Shimei
riseth,
and
saddleth
his

and
goeth
to
Gath,
unto
Achish,
to
seek
his
servants,
and
Shimei
goeth
and
bringeth
his

Gath.
41
And
it

Solomon
that
Shimei

Jerusalem

42
and
the

Shimei,
and
saith
unto
him,
`Have
I
not
caused
thee
to
swear
by
Jehovah
--
and
I
testify
against
thee,
saying,
In
the

and
thou
hast
gone
anywhere,
thou
dost
certainly
know
that
thou
dost
surely
die;
and
thou
sayest
unto
me,
The
word
I
have
heard
is
good?
43
and
wherefore
hast
thou
not
kept
the
oath
of
Jehovah,
and
the
charge
that
I
charged
upon
thee?`
44
And
the
king
saith
unto
Shimei,
`Thou
hast
known
all
the
evil
that
thy
heart
hath
known,
which
thou
didest
to
David
my
father,
and
Jehovah
hath
turned
back
thine
evil
on
thy
head,
45
and
king
Solomon
is
blessed,
and
the
throne
of
David
is
established
before
Jehovah
unto
the
age.`
46
And
the

Benaiah

the

of
Solomon.

And,

the

of
Bahurim,
who
cursed
me

I

Now
therefore

to

with

10
And
David
slept
with
his
fathers,
and
was
buried
in
the
city
of
David.
11
And
the
days
that
David
reigned
over
Israel
were
forty
years;
seven
years
reigned
he
in
Hebron,
and
thirty
and
three
years
reigned
he
in
Jerusalem.
12
And
Solomon
sat
upon
the
throne
of
David
his
father;
and
his
kingdom
was
established
greatly.
13
Then
Adonijah
the
son
of
Haggith
came
to
Bath-sheba
the
mother
of
Solomon.
And
she
said,
Comest
thou
peaceably?
And
he
said,
Peaceably.
14
He
said
moreover,
I
have
somewhat
to
say
unto
thee.
And
she
said,
Say
on.
15
And
he
said,
Thou
knowest
that
the
kingdom
was
mine,
and
that
all
Israel
set
their
faces
on
me,
that
I
should
reign:
howbeit
the
kingdom
is
turned
about,
and
is
become
my
brothers;
for
it
was
his

Jehovah.
16
And
now
I
ask
one
petition
of
thee;
deny
me
not.
And
she
said
unto
him,
Say
on.
17
And
he
said,
Speak,
I
pray
thee,
unto
Solomon
the
king
(for
he
will
not
say
thee
nay),
that
he
give
me
Abishag
the
Shunammite
to
wife.
18
And
Bath-sheba
said,
Well;
I
will
speak
for
thee
unto
the
king.
19
Bath-sheba
therefore
went
unto
king
Solomon,
to
speak
unto
him
for
Adonijah.
And
the
king
rose
up
to
meet
her,
and
bowed
himself
unto
her,
and
sat
down
on
his
throne,
and
caused
a
throne
to
be
set
for
the
kings
mother;
and
she
sat
on
his
right
hand.
20
Then
she
said,
I
ask
one
small
petition
of
thee;
deny
me
not.
And
the
king
said
unto
her,
Ask
on,
my
mother;
for
I
will
not
deny
thee.
21
And
she
said,
Let
Abishag
the
Shunammite
be
given
to
Adonijah
thy
brother
to
wife.
22
And
king
Solomon
answered
and
said
unto
his
mother,
And
why
dost
thou
ask
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
Adonijah?
ask
for
him
the
kingdom
also;
for
he
is
mine
elder
brother;
even
for
him,
and
for
Abiathar
the
priest,
and
for
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah.
23
Then
king
Solomon
sware
by
Jehovah,
saying,
God
do
so
to
me,
and
more
also,
if
Adonijah
hath
not
spoken
this
word
against
his
own
life.
24
Now
therefore
as
Jehovah
liveth,
who
hath
established
me,
and
set
me
on
the
throne
of
David
my
father,
and
who
hath
made
me
a
house,
as
he
promised,
surely
Adonijah
shall
be
put
to
death
this
day.
25
And
king
Solomon
sent
by
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
and
he
fell
upon
him,
so
that
he
died.
26
And
unto
Abiathar
the
priest
said
the
king,
Get
thee
to
Anathoth,
unto
thine
own
fields;
for
thou
art
worthy
of
death:
but
I
will
not
at
this
time
put
thee
to
death,
because
thou
barest
the
ark
of
the
Lord
Jehovah
before
David
my
father,
and
because
thou
wast
afflicted
in
all
wherein
my
father
was
afflicted.
27
So
Solomon
thrust
out
Abiathar
from
being
priest
unto
Jehovah,
that
he
might
fulfil
the
word
of
Jehovah,
which
he
spake
concerning
the
house
of
Eli
in
Shiloh.
28
And
the
tidings
came
to
Joab;
for
Joab
had
turned
after
Adonijah,
though
he
turned
not
after
Absalom.
And
Joab
fled
unto
the
Tent
of
Jehovah,
and
caught
hold
on
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
And
it
was
told
king
Solomon,
Joab
is
fled
unto
the
Tent
of
Jehovah,
and,
behold,
he
is
by
the
altar.
Then
Solomon
sent
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
saying,
Go,
fall
upon
him.
30
And
Benaiah
came
to
the
Tent
of
Jehovah,
and
said
unto
him,
Thus
saith
the
king,
Come
forth.
And
he
said,
Nay;
but
I
will
die
here.
And
Benaiah
brought
the
king
word
again,
saying,
Thus
said
Joab,
and
thus
he
answered
me.
31
And
the
king
said
unto
him,
Do
as
he
hath
said,
and
fall
upon
him,
and
bury
him;
that
thou
mayest
take
away
the
blood,
which
Joab
shed
without
cause,
from
me
and
from
my
fathers
house.
32
And
Jehovah
will
return
his
blood
upon
his
own
head,
because
he
fell
upon
two
men
more
righteous
and
better
than
he,
and
slew
them
with
the
sword,
and
my
father
David
knew
it
not,
to
wit,
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
captain
of
the
host
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
captain
of
the
host
of
Judah.
33
So
shall
their
blood
return
upon
the
head
of
Joab,
and
upon
the
head
of
his
seed
for
ever:
but
unto
David,
and
unto
his
seed,
and
unto
his
house,
and
unto
his
throne,
shall
there
be
peace
for
ever
from
Jehovah.
34
Then
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up,
and
fell
upon
him,
and
slew
him;
and
he
was
buried
in
his
own
house
in
the
wilderness.
35
And
the
king
put
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
in
his
room
over
the
host;
and
Zadok
the
priest
did
the
king
put
in
the
room
of
Abiathar.
36
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
unto
him,
Build
thee
a
house
in
Jerusalem,
and
dwell
there,
and
go
not
forth
thence
any
whither.
37
For
on
the
day
thou
goest
out,
and
passest
over
the
brook
Kidron,
know
thou
for
certain
that
thou
shalt
surely
die:
thy
blood
shall
be
upon
thine
own
head.
38
And
Shimei
said
unto
the
king,
The
saying
is
good:
as
my
lord
the
king
hath
said,
so
will
thy
servant
do.
And
Shimei
dwelt
in
Jerusalem
many
days.
39
And
it
came
to
pass
at
the
end
of
three
years,
that
two
of
the
servants
of
Shimei
ran
away
unto
Achish,
son
of
Maacah,
king
of
Gath.
And
they
told
Shimei,
saying,
Behold,
thy
servants
are
in
Gath.
40
And
Shimei
arose,
and
saddled
his
ass,
and
went
to
Gath
to
Achish,
to
seek
his
servants;
and
Shimei
went,
and
brought
his
servants
from
Gath.
41
And
it
was
told
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath,
and
was
come
again.
42
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
unto
him,
Did
I
not
adjure
thee
by
Jehovah,
and
protest
unto
thee,
saying,
Know
for
certain,
that
on
the
day
thou
goest
out,
and
walkest
abroad
any
whither,
thou
shalt
surely
die?
and
thou
saidst
unto
me,
The
saying
that
I
have
heard
is
good.
43
Why
then
hast
thou
not
kept
the
oath
of
Jehovah,
and
the
commandment
that
I
have
charged
thee
with?
44
The
king
said
moreover
to
Shimei,
Thou
knowest
all
the
wickedness
which
thy
heart
is
privy
to,
that
thou
didst
to
David
my
father:
therefore
Jehovah
shall
return
thy
wickedness
upon
thine
own
head.
45
But
king
Solomon
shall
be
blessed,
and
the
throne
of
David
shall
be
established
before
Jehovah
for
ever.
46
So
the
king
commanded
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
and
he
went
out,
and
fell
upon
him,
so
that
he
died.
And
the
kingdom
was
established
in
the
hand
of
Solomon.

but
my
words
shall

Israel.
5
Moreover
you
know
also
what
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah
did
to
me,
even
what
he
did
to
the
two
captains
of
the
hosts
of
Israel,
to
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
and
to
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
whom
he
killed,
and
shed
the
blood
of
war
in
peace,
and
put
the
blood
of
war
on
his
sash
that
was
about
his
loins,
and
in
his
shoes
that
were
on
his
feet.
6
Do
therefore
according
to
your
wisdom,
and
don't
let
his
gray
head
go
down
to
Sheol
in
peace.
7
But
show
kindness
to
the
sons
of
Barzillai
the
Gileadite,
and
let
them
be
of
those
who
eat
at
your
table;
for
so
they
came
to
me
when
I
fled
from
Absalom
your
brother.
8
Behold,
there
is
with
you
Shimei
the
son
of
Gera,
the
Benjamite,
of
Bahurim,
who
cursed
me
with
a
grievous
curse
in
the
day
when
I
went
to
Mahanaim;
but
he
came
down
to
meet
me
at
the
Jordan,
and
I
swore
to
him
by
Yahweh,
saying,
I
will
not
put
you
to
death
with
the
sword.
9
Now
therefore
don't
hold
him
guiltless,
for
you
are
a
wise
man;
and
you
will
know
what
you
ought
to
do
to
him,
and
you
shall
bring
his
gray
head
down
to
Sheol
with
blood.
10
David
slept
with
his
fathers,
and
was
buried
in
the
city
of
David.
11
The
days
that
David
reigned
over
Israel
were
forty
years;
seven
years
reigned
he
in
Hebron,
and
thirty-three
years
reigned
he
in
Jerusalem.
12
Solomon
sat
on
the
throne
of
David
his
father;
and
his
kingdom
was
established
greatly.
13
Then
Adonijah
the
son
of
Haggith
came
to
Bathsheba
the
mother
of
Solomon.
She
said,
Come
you
peaceably?
He
said,
Peaceably.
14
He
said
moreover,
I
have
somewhat
to
tell
you.
She
said,
Say
on.
15
He
said,
You
know
that
the
kingdom
was
mine,
and
that
all
Israel
set
their
faces
on
me,
that
I
should
reign:
however
the
kingdom
is
turned
about,
and
is
become
my
brother's;
for
it
was
his
from
Yahweh.
16
Now
I
ask
one
petition
of
you;
don't
deny
me.
She
said
to
him,
Say
on.
17
He
said,
Please
speak
to
Solomon
the
king
(for
he
will
not
tell
you
'no'),
that
he
give
me
Abishag
the
Shunammite
as
wife.
18
Bathsheba
said,
Well;
I
will
speak
for
you
to
the
king.
19
Bathsheba
therefore
went
to
king
Solomon,
to
speak
to
him
for
Adonijah.
The
king
rose
up
to
meet
her,
and
bowed
himself
to
her,
and
sat
down
on
his
throne,
and
caused
a
throne
to
be
set
for
the
king's
mother;
and
she
sat
on
his
right
hand.
20
Then
she
said,
I
ask
one
small
petition
of
you;
don't
deny
me.
The
king
said
to
her,
Ask
on,
my
mother;
for
I
will
not
deny
you.
21
She
said,
Let
Abishag
the
Shunammite
be
given
to
Adonijah
your
brother
as
wife.
22
King
Solomon
answered
his
mother,
Why
do
you
ask
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
Adonijah?
ask
for
him
the
kingdom
also;
for
he
is
my
elder
brother;
even
for
him,
and
for
Abiathar
the
priest,
and
for
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah.
23
Then
king
Solomon
swore
by
Yahweh,
saying,
God
do
so
to
me,
and
more
also,
if
Adonijah
has
not
spoken
this
word
against
his
own
life.
24
Now
therefore
as
Yahweh
lives,
who
has
established
me,
and
set
me
on
the
throne
of
David
my
father,
and
who
has
made
me
a
house,
as
he
promised,
surely
Adonijah
shall
be
put
to
death
this
day.
25
King
Solomon
sent
by
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
and
he
fell
on
him,
so
that
he
died.
26
To
Abiathar
the
priest
said
the
king,
Get
you
to
Anathoth,
to
your
own
fields;
for
you
are
worthy
of
death:
but
I
will
not
at
this
time
put
you
to
death,
because
you
bear
the
ark
of
the
Lord
Yahweh
before
David
my
father,
and
because
you
were
afflicted
in
all
in
which
my
father
was
afflicted.
27
So
Solomon
thrust
out
Abiathar
from
being
priest
to
Yahweh,
that
he
might
fulfill
the
word
of
Yahweh,
which
he
spoke
concerning
the
house
of
Eli
in
Shiloh.
28
The
news
came
to
Joab;
for
Joab
had
turned
after
Adonijah,
though
he
didn't
turn
after
Absalom.
Joab
fled
to
the
Tent
of
Yahweh,
and
caught
hold
on
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
It
was
told
king
Solomon,
Joab
is
fled
to
the
Tent
of
Yahweh,
and,
behold,
he
is
by
the
altar.
Then
Solomon
sent
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
saying,
Go,
fall
on
him.
30
Benaiah
came
to
the
Tent
of
Yahweh,
and
said
to
him,
Thus
says
the
king,
Come
forth.
He
said,
No;
but
I
will
die
here.
Benaiah
brought
the
king
word
again,
saying,
Thus
said
Joab,
and
thus
he
answered
me.
31
The
king
said
to
him,
Do
as
he
has
said,
and
fall
on
him,
and
bury
him;
that
you
may
take
away
the
blood,
which
Joab
shed
without
cause,
from
me
and
from
my
father's
house.
32
Yahweh
will
return
his
blood
on
his
own
head,
because
he
fell
on
two
men
more
righteous
and
better
than
he,
and
killed
them
with
the
sword,
and
my
father
David
didn't
know
it,
to
wit,
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
captain
of
the
host
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
captain
of
the
host
of
Judah.
33
So
shall
their
blood
return
on
the
head
of
Joab,
and
on
the
head
of
his
seed
forever:
but
to
David,
and
to
his
seed,
and
to
his
house,
and
to
his
throne,
shall
there
be
peace
for
ever
from
Yahweh.
34
Then
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up,
and
fell
on
him,
and
killed
him;
and
he
was
buried
in
his
own
house
in
the
wilderness.
35
The
king
put
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
in
his
room
over
the
host;
and
Zadok
the
priest
did
the
king
put
in
the
room
of
Abiathar.
36
The
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
to
him,
Build
yourself
a
house
in
Jerusalem,
and
dwell
there,
and
don't
go
forth
from
there
any
where.
37
For
on
the
day
you
go
out,
and
pass
over
the
brook
Kidron,
know
you
for
certain
that
you
shall
surely
die:
your
blood
shall
be
on
your
own
head.
38
Shimei
said
to
the
king,
The
saying
is
good:
as
my
lord
the
king
has
said,
so
will
your
servant
do.
Shimei
lived
in
Jerusalem
many
days.
39
It
happened
at
the
end
of
three
years,
that
two
of
the
servants
of
Shimei
ran
away
to
Achish,
son
of
Maacah,
king
of
Gath.
They
told
Shimei,
saying,
Behold,
your
servants
are
in
Gath.
40
Shimei
arose,
and
saddled
his
donkey,
and
went
to
Gath
to
Achish,
to
seek
his
servants;
and
Shimei
went,
and
brought
his
servants
from
Gath.
41
It
was
told
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath,
and
was
come
again.
42
The
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
to
him,
Didn't
I
adjure
you
by
Yahweh,
and
protest
to
you,
saying,
Know
for
certain,
that
on
the
day
you
go
out,
and
walk
abroad
any
where,
you
shall
surely
die?
and
you
said
to
me,
The
saying
that
I
have
heard
is
good.
43
Why
then
have
you
not
kept
the
oath
of
Yahweh,
and
the
commandment
that
I
have
charged
you
with?
44
The
king
said
moreover
to
Shimei,
You
know
all
the
wickedness
which
your
heart
is
privy
to,
that
you
did
to
David
my
father:
therefore
Yahweh
shall
return
your
wickedness
on
your
own
head.
45
But
king
Solomon
shall
be
blessed,
and
the
throne
of
David
shall
be
established
before
Yahweh
forever.
46
So
the
king
commanded
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
and
he
went
out,
and
fell
on
him,
so
that
he
died.
The
kingdom
was
established
in
the
hand
of
Solomon.
Luke 21:33
33
Heaven
and
earth
will
pass
away,
but
my
words
will
by
no
means
pass
away.

And
king
Solomon

Joab

king
Solomon,
Joab

Then
Solomon
sent
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada,
saying,
Go,
fall
upon
him.
30
And
Benaiah
came
to
the
Tent
of
the
LORD,
and
said
unto
him,
Thus
saith
the
king,
Come
forth.
And
he
said,
Nay;
but
I
will
die
here.
And
Benaiah
brought
the
king
word
again,
saying,
Thus
said
Joab,
and
thus
he
answered
me.
31
And
the
king
said
unto
him,
Do
as
he
hath

take
away
the
blood,
which
Joab
shed
without
cause,
from
me
and
from
my
fathers
house.
32
And
the
LORD
shall
return
his
blood
upon
his
own
head,
because
he
fell
upon
two
men
more
righteous
and
better
than
he,
and
slew
them
with
the
sword,
and
my
father
David
knew
it
not,
{cf15i
to
wit},
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
captain
of
the
host
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
the
son
of
Jether,
captain
of
the
host
of
Judah.
33
So
shall
their
blood
return
upon
the
head
of
Joab,
and
upon
the
head
of
his
seed
for
ever:
but
unto
David,
and
unto
his
seed,
and
unto
his
house,
and
unto
his
throne,
shall
there
be
peace
for
ever
from
the
LORD.
34
Then
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up,
and
fell
upon
him,
and
slew
him;
and
he
was
buried
in
his
own
house
in
the
wilderness.
35
And
the
king
put
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada
in
his
room
over
the
host:
and
Zadok
the
priest
did
the
king
put
in
the
room
of
Abiathar.
36
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
unto
him,
Build
thee
an
house
in
Jerusalem,
and
dwell
there,
and
go
not
forth
thence
any
whither.
37
For
on
the
day
thou
goest
out,
and
passest
over
the
brook
Kidron,
know
thou
for
certain
that
thou
shalt
surely
die:
thy
blood
shall
be
upon
thine
own
head.
38
And
Shimei
said
unto
the
king,
The
saying
is
good:
as
my
lord
the
king
hath
said,
so
will
thy
servant
do.
And
shimei
dwelt
in
Jerusalem
many
days.
39
And
it
came
to
pass
at
the
end
of
three
years,
that
two
of
the
servants
of
Shimei
ran
away
unto
Achish,
son
of
Maacah,
king
of
Gath.
And
they
told
Shimei,
saying;
Behold,
thy
servants
be
in
Gath.
40
And
Shimei
arose,
and
saddled
his
ass,
and
went
to
Gath
to
Achish,
to
seek
his
servants:
and
Shimei
went,
and
brought
his
servants
from
Gath.
41
And
it
was
told
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath,
and
was
come
again.
42
And
the
king
sent
and
called
for
Shimei,
and
said
unto
him,
Did
I
not
make
thee
to
swear
by
the
LORD,
and
protested
unto
thee,
saying,
Know
for
certain,
that
on
the
day
thou
goest
out,
and
walkest
abroad
any
whither,
thou
shalt
surely
die?
and
thou
saidst
unto
me,
The
saying
that
I
have
heard
is
good.
43
Why
then
hast
thou
not
kept
the
oath
of
the
LORD,
and
the
commandment
that
I
have
charged
thee
with?
44
The
king
said
moreover
to
Shimei,
Thou
knowest
all
the
wickedness
which
thine
heart
is
privy
to,
that
thou
didst
to
David
my
father:
therefore
the
LORD
shall
return
thy
wickedness
upon
thine
own
head.
45
But
king
Solomon
shall
be
blessed,
and
the
throne
of
David
shall
be
established
before
the
LORD
for
ever.
46
So
the
king
commanded
Benaiah
the
son
of
Jehoiada;
and
he
went
out,
and
fell
upon
him,
that
he
died.
And
the
kingdom
was
established
in
the
hand
of
Solomon.
Luke 21:33
33
Heaven
and
earth
shall
pass
away:
but
my
words
shall
not
pass
away.

a

10
Then
David
passed
away
and
was
buried
in
the
city
of
David.
11
David
reigned
over
Israel
forty
years;
he
reigned
in
Hebron
seven
years,
and
in
Jerusalem
thirty-three
years.
12
Solomon
sat
on
his
father
David's
throne,
and
his
royal
authority
was
firmly
solidified.
13
Haggith's
son
Adonijah
visited
Bathsheba,
Solomon's
mother.
She
asked,
"Do
you
come
in
peace?"
He
answered,
"Yes."
14
He
added,
"I
have
something
to
say
to
you."
She
replied,
"Speak."
15
He
said,
"You
know
that
the
kingdom
was
mine
and
all
Israel
considered
me
king.
But
then
the
kingdom
was
given
to
my
brother,
for
the
LORD
decided
it
should
be
his.
16
Now
I'd
like
to
ask
you
for
just
one
thing.
Please
don't
refuse
me."
She
said,
"Go
ahead
and
ask."
17
He
said,
"Please
ask
King
Solomon
if
he
would
give
me
Abishag
the
Shunammite
as
a
wife,
for
he
won't
refuse
you."
18
Bathsheba
replied,
"That's
fine,
I'll
speak
to
the
king
on
your
behalf."
19
So
Bathsheba
visited
King
Solomon
to
speak
to
him
on
Adonijah's
behalf.
The
king
got
up
to
greet
her,
bowed
to
her,
and
then
sat
on
his
throne.
He
ordered
a
throne
to
be
brought
for
the
king's
mother,
and
she
sat
at
his
right
hand.
20
She
said,
"I
would
like
to
ask
you
for
just
one
small
favor.
Please
don't
refuse
me."
He
said,
"Go
ahead
and
ask,
my
mother,
for
I
would
not
refuse
you."
21
She
said,
"Allow
Abishag
the
Shunammite
to
be
given
to
your
brother
Adonijah
as
a
wife."
22
King
Solomon
answered
his
mother,
"Why
just
request
Abishag
the
Shunammite
for
him?
Since
he
is
my
older
brother,
you
should
also
request
the
kingdom
for
him,
for
Abiathar
the
priest,
and
for
Joab
son
of
Zeruiah!"
23
King
Solomon
then
swore
an
oath
by
the
LORD,
"May
God
judge
me
severely,
if
Adonijah
does
not
pay
for
this
request
with
his
life!
24
Now,
as
certainly
as
the
LORD
lives
(he
who
made
me
secure,
allowed
me
to
sit
on
my
father
David's
throne,
and
established
a
dynasty
for
me
as
he
promised),
Adonijah
will
be
executed
today!"
25
King
Solomon
then
sent
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada,
and
he
killed
Adonijah.
26
The
king
then
told
Abiathar
the
priest,
"Go
back
to
your
property
in
Anathoth.
You
deserve
to
die,
but
today
I
will
not
kill
you
because
you
did
carry
the
ark
of
the
sovereign
LORD
before
my
father
David
and
you
suffered
with
my
father
through
all
his
difficult
times."
27
Solomon
dismissed
Abiathar
from
his
position
as
priest
of
the
LORD,
fulfilling
the
decree
of
judgment
the
LORD
made
in
Shiloh
against
the
family
of
Eli.
28
When
the
news
reached
Joab
(for
Joab
had
supported
Adonijah,
although
he
had
not
supported
Absalom),
he
ran
to
the
tent
of
the
LORD
and
grabbed
hold
of
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
When
King
Solomon
heard
that
Joab
had
run
to
the
tent
of
the
LORD
and
was
right
there
beside
the
altar,
he
ordered
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada,
"Go,
strike
him
down."
30
When
Benaiah
arrived
at
the
tent
of
the
LORD,
he
said
to
him,
"The
king
says,
'Come
out!'"
But
he
replied,
"No,
I
will
die
here!"
So
Benaiah
sent
word
to
the
king
and
reported
Joab's
reply.
31
The
king
told
him,
"Do
as
he
said!
Strike
him
down
and
bury
him.
Take
away
from
me
and
from
my
father's
family
the
guilt
of
Joab's
murderous,
bloody
deeds.
32
May
the
LORD
punish
him
for
the
blood
he
shed;
behind
my
father
David's
back
he
struck
down
and
murdered
with
the
sword
two
men
who
were
more
innocent
and
morally
upright
than
he
Abner
son
of
Ner,
commander
of
Israel's
army,
and
Amasa
son
of
Jether,
commander
of
Judah's
army.
33
May
Joab
and
his
descendants
be
perpetually
guilty
of
their
shed
blood,
but
may
the
LORD
give
perpetual
peace
to
David,
his
descendants,
his
family,
and
his
dynasty."
34
So
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
went
up
and
executed
Joab;
he
was
buried
at
his
home
in
the
wilderness.
35
The
king
appointed
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
to
take
his
place
at
the
head
of
the
army,
and
the
king
appointed
Zadok
the
priest
to
take
Abiathar's
place.
36
Next
the
king
summoned
Shimei
and
told
him,
"Build
yourself
a
house
in
Jerusalem
and
live
there
but
you
may
not
leave
there
to
go
anywhere!
37
If
you
ever
do
leave
and
cross
the
Kidron
Valley,
know
for
sure
that
you
will
certainly
die!
You
will
be
responsible
for
your
own
death."
38
Shimei
said
to
the
king,
"My
master
the
king's
proposal
is
acceptable.
Your
servant
will
do
as
you
say."
So
Shimei
lived
in
Jerusalem
for
a
long
time.
39
Three
years
later
two
of
Shimei's
servants
ran
away
to
King
Achish
son
of
Maacah
of
Gath.
Shimei
was
told,
"Look,
your
servants
are
in
Gath."
40
So
Shimei
got
up,
saddled
his
donkey,
and
went
to
Achish
at
Gath
to
find
his
servants;
Shimei
went
and
brought
back
his
servants
from
Gath.
41
When
Solomon
was
told
that
Shimei
had
gone
from
Jerusalem
to
Gath
and
had
then
returned,
42
the
king
summoned
Shimei
and
said
to
him,
"You
will
recall
that
I
made
you
take
an
oath
by
the
LORD,
and
I
solemnly
warned
you,
'If
you
ever
leave
and
go
anywhere,
know
for
sure
that
you
will
certainly
die.'
You
said
to
me,
'The
proposal
is
acceptable;
I
agree
to
it.'
43
Why
then
have
you
broken
the
oath
you
made
before
the
LORD
and
disobeyed
the
order
I
gave
you?"
44
Then
the
king
said
to
Shimei,
"You
are
well
aware
of
the
way
you
mistreated
my
father
David.
The
LORD
will
punish
you
for
what
you
did.
45
But
King
Solomon
will
be
empowered
and
David's
dynasty
will
endure
permanently
before
the
LORD."
46
The
king
then
gave
the
order
to
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
who
went
and
executed
Shimei.
So
Solomon
took
firm
control
of
the
kingdom.
Luke 21:33
33
Heaven
and
earth

pass

but
my
words
will
never
pass
away.

don't
refuse
me."
Bathsheba
answered,
"What
do
you
want?"
17
Adonijah
said,
"I
know
that
King
Solomon
will
do
whatever
you
ask.
So
please
ask
him
to
let
me
marry
Abishag,
the
woman
from
Shunem."
18
Then
Bathsheba
said,
"Very
well,
I
will
speak
to
the
king
for
you."
19
So
Bathsheba
went
to
King
Solomon
to
talk
with
him.
When
Solomon
saw
her,
he
stood
up,
bowed
before
her,
and
then
sat
back
down.
He
told
some
servants
to
bring
another
throne
for
his
mother,
and
she
sat
down
at
his
right
side.
20
Bathsheba
said
to
him,
"I
have
one
small
thing
to
ask
you.
Please
don't
refuse
me."
The
king
answered,
"Ask
whatever
you
want,
mother.
I
will
not
refuse
you."
21
So
Bathsheba
said,
"Let
your
brother
Adonijah
marry
Abishag,
the
woman
from
Shunem."
22
King
Solomon
answered
his
mother,
"Why
are
you
asking
me
to
give
Abishag
to
Adonijah?
Why
don't
you
just
ask
me
to
give
him
the
whole
kingdom!
After
all,
he
is
my
older
brother,
and
both
Abiathar
the
priest
and
Joab
support
him!"
23
Then
Solomon
said,
"By
the
Lord,
I
swear
I'll
make
Adonijah
pay
for
this
with
his
life!
24
The
Lord
made
me
the
king
of
Israel.
He
gave
me
the
throne
of
my
father
David.
The
Lord
kept
his
promise
and
gave
the
kingdom
to
me
and
my
family.
Now,
as
surely
as
the
Lord
lives,
I
swear
Adonijah
will
die
today!"
25
King
Solomon
gave
the
command
to
Benaiah,
and
Benaiah
went
out
and
killed
Adonijah.
26
Then
King
Solomon
said
to
Abiathar
the
priest,
"I
should
kill
you,
but
I
will
let
you
go
back
to
your
home
in
Anathoth.
I
will
not
kill
you
now
because
you
helped
carry
the
Holy
Box
of
the
Lord
while
marching
with
my
father
David.
And
I
know
that
you
shared
in
the
hard
times
with
my
father."
27
So
Solomon
told
Abiathar
that
he
could
not
continue
to
serve
as
a
priest
of
the
Lord.
This
happened
as
the
Lord
said
it
would
when
he
told
Eli
the
priest
what
would
happen
to
him
and
his
family.
28
Joab
had
supported
Adonijah,
but
not
Absalom.
But
when
Joab
heard
what
happened
to
Abiathar,
he
was
frightened
and
ran
to
the
tent
of
the
Lord
to
hold
onto
the
horns
of
the
altar.
29
Someone
told
King
Solomon
that
Joab
was
at
the
altar
in
the
Lord's
Tent.
So
Solomon
ordered
Benaiah
to
go
and
kill
him.
30
Benaiah
went
into
the
Lord's
Tent
and
said
to
Joab,
"The
king
says,
'Come
out!'"
But
Joab
answered,
"No,
I
will
die
here."
Benaiah
went
back
to
the
king
and
told
him
what
Joab
had
said.
31
The
king
commanded
Benaiah,
"Do
as
he
says!
Kill
him
there
and
take
him
out
to
bury
him.
Then
my
family
and
I
will
be
free
of
Joab's
guilt
from
killing
innocent
people.
32
Joab
killed
two
men
who
were
much
better
than
he
was.
He
killed
Abner
son
of
Ner,
the
commander
of
the
army
of
Israel,
and
Amasa
son
of
Jether,
the
commander
of
the
army
of
Judah.
He
did
this
without
my
father's
knowledge.
But
now
the
Lord
will
punish
Joab
for
the
men
he
killed.
33
He
and
his
family
will
always
be
guilty
for
their
deaths.
But
the
Lord
will
bring
peace
to
David,
his
descendants,
his
family
of
kings,
and
his
kingdom
forever."
34
So
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
killed
Joab,
and
he
was
buried
near
his
home
in
the
desert.
35
Solomon
then
made
Benaiah
son
of
Jehoiada
the
commander
of
the
army
in
Joab's
place.
Solomon
also
made
Zadok
the
new
high
priest
in
Abiathar's
place.
36
Next,
the
king
sent
for
Shimei
and
said
to
him,
"Build
yourself
a
house
here
in
Jerusalem
to
live
in
and
don't
leave
the
city.
37
If
you
leave
the
city
and
go
any
further
than
Kidron
Brook,
you
will
be
killed,
and
it
will
be
your
own
fault."
38
Shimei
answered,
"Yes,
my
king.
I
will
obey
you."
So
Shimei
lived
in
Jerusalem
for
a
long
time.
39
But
three
years
later,
two
of
Shimei's
slaves
ran
away.
They
went
to
King
Achish
of
Gath,
who
was
the
son
of
Maacah.
Shimei
heard
that
his
slaves
were
in
Gath,
40
so
he
saddled
his
donkey
and
went
to
King
Achish
at
Gath
to
find
them.
He
found
them
there
and
brought
them
back
home.
41
But
someone
told
Solomon
that
Shimei
had
left
Jerusalem
and
gone
to
Gath
and
back.
42
So
Solomon
sent
for
him
and
said,
"I
made
you
promise
in
the
Lord's
name
not
to
leave
Jerusalem.
And
I
warned
you
that
if
you
went
out
anywhere
you
would
die.
And
you
agreed
to
what
I
said.
You
said
that
you
would
obey
me.
43
So
why
didn't
you
obey
me?
Why
did
you
break
your
promise?
44
You
know
all
the
bad
things
you
did
to
my
father
David.
Now
the
Lord
will
punish
you
for
it.
45
But
the
Lord
will
bless
me
and
keep
David's
throne
before
him
forever."
46
Then
the
king
ordered
Benaiah
to
kill
Shimei,
and
he
did.
So
Solomon
had
full
control
of
his
kingdom.
Luke 21:33
33
The
whole
world,
earth
and
sky,
will
be
destroyed,
but
my
words
will
last
forever.
